Carbon buildup on Valves

Typical European Gasoline Direct Injection Engine

Vehicle condition: Rough running engine - misfires intermittently.

Analysis: Found carbon buildup on valves disturbing the airflow into the combustion chamber.

Root cause:  Lack of vehicle intake system maintenance.  Vehicles with Direct fuel injection can become victims to carbon buildup on valves due to oil fumes-droplets attaching themselves to valves when engine is turned off after running.  These droplets will accumulate over time until they disturb the valves closing dynamics or disturb the air flow into the combustion chamber.

Resolution - preventative measures:

  1. Routine Intake induction cleaning via a mist method involving a professional grade induction cleaning.
  2.  Removal of intake to gain access to valves.  Walnut blasting of valves to remove  oil-carbon deposits.
